the 1939 visit of King George VI and his wife to Winnipeg and
their meeting with Canadian prime minister Mackenzie King and
the mayor and his wife—Mr. And Mrs. Queen In the year ahead of us, Alpha Omega is going to be quite busy with a few little projects that I hope will be interesting, be fun, and will get us all working together. Let me give you a little run down of things that will be happening, and that you can help to make a reality. The General Affairs Committee will be diligent in trying to help the officers with the flow of day-to-day business, and also to help keep business meeting agendas as brief as possible. I'm sure that everyone will benefit from their efforts. Other aspects that the General Affairs Committee will be involved with will be mentioned as I go along here. The A-O Interview Committee will be making first contacts and doing interviews. It will also distribute membership packets (with brochures, business cards, copy of the Alpha Omega constitution and other pertinent items for old and new members.) This committee will also be passing out forms for people to fill out to cover the chance of an emergency and what you would like done and who to contact, fi necessary. Lori would really appreciate if someone would like to step in and chair the committee, as she has done so very well for several years now. This can be a great way for someone to reach out and help others and serve the group. I hope someone will take up the challenge of this opportunity. Next there is the Outreach Committee. I'm hoping you all remembered about doing you homework - that is getting the name, address, and contact person at libraries in your local area; and also jotting down the names and addresses of some doctors, psychiatrists, psychologists, counseling centers, ministers, churches, other helping professionals, and possible vendors who may be contacted by the group. We have some people working on developing letters of contact that can be mailed or e-mailed to let more people know Alpha Omega is here, and is here to help. Outreach will work on getting more books in libraries through the TriEss Library Program. Outreach will be seeking new vendors and speakers, and also working to do a brand new informational video about Alpha Omega and TriEss. By the end of this year a lot more people are going to know that Alpha Omega exists. Then we have the Finance Committee. This committee will not only review the books every three months (approximately), but with the help of the General Affairs Committee will be working to set up budgets for meals, for the newsletter, and for other necessary matters so we can better plan our finances now and in the future. This will be an even more important job as our group gets bigger. Our Newsletter and Web site Committee will continue to publish and develop the group newsletter and both the Alpha Omega and Rainbow Trails web site. Both of these web sites are attracting a fair amount of attention, and we can make them even better. But making the newsletter and the web sites "Bigger and Better" takes time and effort. It takes people gleaning other newsletters and other information sources for items we can use. It takes people writing articles, both serious and fun. It takes people entering the information, or stapling and folding, or a lot of other little things that make the whole project work. We can be very proud of the newsletter and web sites. These are ways that people learn about Alpha Omega - what we stand for, and what we try to do. If you can help with the newsletter or the web sites, then join in, and be a part of the experience. It is rewarding. Also we will be starting to put vendor ads in the newsletter and on the web site. This will be a free service for the members of Alpha Omega. The Christmas Party and Awards Committee will be planning the meal, the "entertainment", and the selection of awards for this year. Lend a hand if you can. And then there is, what I call, the Special Projects Committee. This may be a very bust, yet very exciting and fun committee to be on. Some of the items this committee will be working on are: 1. The Alpha Omega Cookbook "TV Dinners" with our own original or Favorite recipes, nutritional infor- Mation, pictures and captions. You May want to try a "Skirt of Beef" or "Ladyfingers" or check out the "Cheesecake" section. You may also read about the "Makeup of Our Food" and learn about calories and Carbohydrates.
2. The "What Is a Girl to Do?" book - a compilation of humorous stories that have happened to us along with jokes, multiple choice situations, and maybe even some thought- provoking items to really show that there is a lighter side to this "hobby" of ours. Write down your stories or humorous items, cartoons, etc., and let's all have a good laugh. 3. New name badges - will be another project. For someone with a creative flair this could be a nice challenge. 4. New business cards - I'd like to see new business cards with the post office box, web sites, etc. We need someone to work out a format for these. 5. New brochures may be a possibility for someone to explore. 6. Cheryl has designed a logo for the Rainbow Trail web site, and she has someone working on a possible logo for the Alpha Omega web site. The two logos can be independent of each other, but also may be joined to make one overall Alpha Omega logo as a way of expressing the unity of all individuals in our group. And General Affairs will help to keep things going, along with the officers so that this will be a very active and exciting year. Also, the Constitutional Review will proceed and should be wrapped up by later this summer. We need your help, even in so many little ways to make all these things happen. Join in. You will enjoy it. Gender News BitsBy
Lisa Ann From
Gender Advocacy Internet News(GAIN), a free Internet news service, brought to
you courtesty of American Educational Gender Information Service and It's
Time, America! at http://www.gender.org In a March 24 Associated Press story
(AP-NY-03-24-99 0826EST) with the above headline, it was reported that
Pierson, Florida school officials will allow a young man to attend his high
school prom "in drag." According to the article, Charles Rice
intends to wear a "red, floor-length evening gown, red satin shoes,
gloves and matching rhinestone jewelry" to the prom on Saturday. The decision comes after Peter Oatman, the
Taylor High School Principal, said he would bar the youth from the prom if he
appeared in drag. According to the story, the officials made
their decision because the principal had previously allowed Rice to sport
skirts and dresses to special school events Scouts, Unitarians Work It Out While
they've changed their approach to the situation, the Unitarians still plan to
fight the sin of homophobia in the Boy Scout organization. The Unitarian Universalist Association of Congregations (UUA) can once
again issue Religion in Life emblems to its Boy Scout members and Love and
Help emblems to its Cub Scout members, after having removed criticism of the
Boy Scouts of America's (BSA) exclusion of gays from the UUA manual on
qualifying for the emblems. UUA is also seeking a position on BSA's Religious
Relationships Committee in hopes of changing the Scouts' anti-gay stance.
Remember the commercial telling you to “reach out and touch someone?” Looking at our webpage stats for this past month, I would say that we are succeeding in doing just that. In the last month the Rainbow Trail has had 143 visitors. That brings our total to 675 – a lot of touches. As I watch the totals climb, I think back to the days when I created the Trail. I had hoped that it would help those following the Trail on the Path to Discovery. It seems to be working. “I have just learned that my husband is a crossdresser. I support him 100% and I do NOT have a problem with it. I am searching the internet to learn more about crossdressing so we can talk to each other about it and I found your web site to be very informative and enlightening. I would just like to say “Thank you.” (JNS)” (This was an email I received April 16th). My sister-in-law is currently working on a logo for A-O and the Rainbow Trail. Using the Trail’s Rainbow with bird, she is adding a Path to Discovery for A-O. Each will be able to be used separately but will be stronger in meaning when combined. Hopefully it will be completed soon so that Lisa and I can show it in the June meeting and (grin) at SPICE. The article for May will be a letter sent on the CDSO entitled “My Manifesto or Humanifesto.” Check it out at http://www.geocities.com/Paris/Parc/1472/rainbowtrailmay.html. Kathleen and I were both impressed with the insights shown in this particular email. The CDSO bookclub is gone but the TRIESS42 is off to a great start. Postings have included such topics as hormones, asking your CD out, and the latest (believe it or not) is the use of initials (CD and GW) to differentiate between the writers. The CDSO is just as busy and they all are certainly keeping my emails flying. Averaging 35-40/day, I barely have time to do anything else on line. But it is certainly an informative experience. BTW (by the way) we do have a chat room online also and meet on Thursday nights. See you all at the meeting!!!!!! Don’t forget to visit the Rainbow Trail! I love seeing the numbers rise. Hugs, Cheryl
GW OR CD, THAT IS THE QUESTION
We need your help…..PLEASE! W we need the opinion
of others on a certain matter. Should
those corresponding clarifying who they are by using the initials GW or CD
after their names? Believe it or
not, this has really posed some conflicts in the postings. Does it or should it make a difference? Your input to me (Cheryl) or Lisa would be appreciated.
