Message from the President

I hope everyone’s holidays were as joyful as Andrea’s and mine were.

As we begin the new millennium it seems that we are getting closer and closer to the mainstream.  As I was getting ready to write this article, I had the TV on in the background and a commercial came on that caught my attention. It was for a company that sells electronic games. You see a man in full crossdress (not very well done) and he says, “What will it take to keep this from your mother?” Next we see a surprised young boy who immediately sees himself with the newest Sega. There is a brief spiel about the company and next we see Grandpa in the bathroom. He is talking on a cordless phone and wearing a tee shirt, boxer shorts, black  thigh highs, and heels. You hear a girl’s voice in the background and she is  telling him to hurry up. Then it’s back to more info about the company. So maybe if we keep pushing a little at a time no one will have to endure the kind of treatment to which Peter Oiler has been subjected (see article titled “A Letter from Mary Frances “ on page ?). At least that is my wish for the new year.

The following is my article......

Since everyone else seems to be taking a hiatus from writing articles for the Silhouette, I've decided to take one also.

 A letter from CDSO

Dear XXXX and everybody,

For 23 years Mr. Peter Oiler was a loyal employee of Winn-Dixie, driving trucks for the New Orleans division of the company.  Although he is a crossdresser, he confined his crossgender expression strictly to his home. When Winn-Dixie became aware of his home dressing, they fired him, stating that his continuing employment was bad for the company's image.

A Coalition has formed to preserve human dignity and rights at Winn-Dixie.  Tri-Ess International has joined the Coalition, and has
encouraged all its chapters to follow suit, and to write the company to let them know that this discriminatory and wrongful action ought not to occur in America.  You may write the corporate executives as follows:

President and CEO, Al Rowland
E-Mail:  AlRowland@winn-dixie.com
Phone:   904-783-5000
Fax:       904-783-5235

Division President, New Orleans Division (Mr. Oiler's Division)
Michael Istre
E-Mail: MichaelIstre@winn-dixie.com
Phone:  504-731-2200
Fax:      504-731-2379

I'll be happy to answer any questions anyone may have.

       Love to all of you,
       Mary Frances
