Polls and Surveys-

How do we know what we think we know about crossdressing, transvestism, transsexuality and the like? One way is to take polls.

Here are a collection of polls I've come across on the internet.  The results aren't consistent.  I suspect that with the greater tolerance (if not acceptance) of homosexuality, the number of people confessing to some same-sex experience is higher in new polls and anonymous polls than in old polls or direct interviews.

I'd take all these polls with a huge grain of salt.  First, a poll is no better than the quality of the set of people who take/are given it.  There are all kinds of ways to get a non-representative set of people to take a poll and then report results that are wrong about the topic.  Second, if questions aren't asked or asked the wrong way, you can get just about any result you want.

Vernon Coleman reports the results of this poll he took.  An outspoken British talking head, columnist and MD, I think, although I'm not certain that he's "one of us" as well.

Yvonne runs a rather large a comprehensive web-site visited by lots of people.  This poll shows a much higher incidence of same-sex contact than others.

This UK survey also shows higher results than typically claimed.
