The Gender Dysphoria Program of Central Ohio was established in 1979, following ad hoc efforts to meet the needs of gender variant people in central Ohio and surrounding regions dating to 1975. The GDPCO serves the needs of individuals who wish to transition gender roles with or without hormones, and with or without sexual reassignment surgery (SRS).

The GDPCO is dedicated to a non-dogmatic approach. It respects the individual's special circumstances and treats each person's condition as unique, while at the same time adhering to the treatment guidelines set by the International Standards of Care (SOC). Conforming to the SOC makes it easier for GDPCO members to access other programs and specialists whose expertise may be needed to help with the transition process.
