providing for the personal growth and fulfillment of those whose lives are affected by crossdressing
A Personal View
Welcome to the Alpha Omega Society web site. Alpha Omega is a non-profit social support organization that focuses on the concerns and needs of the crossdresser, his/her spouse and/or partner, and the family and friends who are a part of their lives. Over twenty years ago (1984) it was the wife of a crossdresser who began a group called Genesis that shortly after that became Alpha Omega. Genesis was started because this caring individual saw and felt the need for a way to provide friendship, caring, understanding, and acceptance for her husband, other crossdressers and their spouses, and others who shared this common bond of crossdressing as an aspect of their lives. We owe this woman a debt of gratitude for taking the bold steps to create an organization that we, as members, today can take pride in being a part of. Even today the involvement, friendship and understanding of the women who attend our meetings make the time we share together something very special. That is something we, as a group, can be proud of. For many, Alpha Omega may be, or can be, the first step toward their own personal "Road of Discovery" as they seek to find who they truly are as a human being. And for the spouses, partners, family and close friends of these crossdressers, Alpha Omega can be a means of perhaps finding understanding for this phenomenon that is also a part of their lives. We do not claim to have all the answers, and probably never will. Nobody really knows why anyone becomes a crossdresser. Nor can they explain why there is such a wide range of crossdressing, from someone who may wear just one item occasionally to the postoperative transsexual. Many may have for years considered crossdressing a strictly male activity; but in recent years the aspect of females that crossdress has become more widely known. What is important is that there are human beings with questions about who they are as individuals in a "society" that disdains anyone it may term "different". Alpha Omega is here to help those who reach out to us to find their own peace and freedom of expression for who they are. Just as there is such a wide range of crossdressers or transgender individuals, there are many different groups that try to provide support. There are national organizations, and smaller regional and local groups across the country to meet the needs of the spectrum of the "crossdressing community." The Greater Cleveland area is fortunate to have several support for crossdressers. Each group has its own uniqueness, but has the common goal of seeking to help fellow human beings. That is what really matters. In many ways crossdressing is not the taboo subject it was in years past, and that is good for us all. But, how crossdressing effects each one of us in our day-to-day lives is what we must deal with. Alpha Omega and other groups are available for those seeking friendship, caring, understanding and acceptance for who they are as human beings, we do change the world, a little more every day. I hope you enjoy the Alpha Omega web site. Gloria Sue Fenton Board Chair 2002-2007 |
